About Rongo

We operate at the intersection of strategy, data, and governance.

Rongo was founded by Sam Ragnarsson and Chad Payne to bring clarity and collaboration to the way organisations think and work.

With presence in both Christchurch and Hamilton, and a large proportion of our work delivered remotely, we work across councils, ministries, and industry groups throughout New Zealand — aligning stakeholders and simplifying the technical and organisational layers behind large programmes of work.

Rongo operates as an independent consulting initiative under HanSam Trading Logistics Ltd (NZBN 6727995), trading as HanSam Consulting. This structure allows Rongo to operate flexibly and transparently while maintaining full professional and financial accountability.

  • Systems thinking Seeing connections between policy, people, and data across complex environments.
  • Framework creation Translating ideas into visual, repeatable models that organisations can actually use.
  • Integrity and governance Ensuring structures promote transparency, trust, and accountability.
  • Facilitation and storytelling Turning technical issues into shared understanding across diverse groups.

The Rongo Register

Words shape decisions. Undefined words shape them badly.

Every day, governments, organisations, systems, and people use terms that sound precise — and mean something slightly different to everyone in the room. Often nobody notices. Sometimes the consequences are significant.

The Rongo Register is a shared language for what things mean. Not a dictionary, not a glossary — something more useful than both. Every term traces back to a verifiable source. Every definition describes what is included, what is excluded, and where the boundaries sit.

It is not an opinion platform. It is a structured way to describe what terms actually contain — so decisions can be made from a shared foundation.
